Please read Brad Townsend’s piece on Dallas Mavericks guard Delonte West for the Dallas Morning News. It’s well written, insightful and after reading it, you can’t help rooting for West.  

“Road trips were a godsend for West because he was provided a hotel room and per diem. But when the team returned to Dallas at 3 or 4 a.m. and had a morning practice schedule, West says it didn’t make fiscal sense to pay for a hotel.
So [sic] would bunk in the AAC locker room area or the arena garage in his truck. He tried to rent at several apartment complexes, but says some were too pricey and others flagged him after reading about his past on the Internet.
‘Soon as Mr. Cuban heard about that, he made one phone call and everybody was lining up to rent me an apartment,’ West says with a laugh. ‘They were calling back saying, ‘Hey, we’ve got the penthouse suite for you.’”
